What should I wear for business headshot sessions?

Basic guidelines for everyone:

• Dress appropriate to the industry that your business falls into.
• Make sure your clothing is wrinkle free and has a good fit.
• Choose solid colors without strong patterns
• Darker colors are more slimming
• Choose classic styles

Choosing clothing for your headshot session: Men

If you are wearing a suit make sure that it fits you well and does not bunch up when it is buttoned or when you sit down.  Dark colored suits like black, navy, brown, or grey generally photograph the best.   If you are wearing a button down shirt without a suit jacket or tie it’s best to avoid white as it can make you look boxy.

Choosing clothing for your headshot session: Women

Wear your hair and makeup the way that you usually do or try new styles ahead of time so that you get results that you are pleased with.  For jewelry, I recommend either none at all, or very simple styles.  Remember that the first thing you want people to notice in your headshot is your face!  The more professional level the headshot the less skin you want to be showing such as sleeveless tops or very low necklines.
